Return to sender: As climate change takes its toll, can recycled sewage water provide the answer to California’s water woes?

Excerpt: “In July 2014, in the middle of one of the hottest and driest summers in California history, Silicon Valley celebrated the opening of its newest water supply facility: a $72 million purification plant that can produce clean water from sewage. A small crowd of local and state officials stood on stage… behind them loomed the new Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center.”

How California Is Learning to Love Drinking Recycled Water

Excerpt: “The water district has a facility, the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center, that can treat wastewater to drinking water standards, but currently the water is only used to supplement recycled water for non-potable uses such as irrigation. In the near future (likely the next two to three years), the agency may be using the water for indirect potable reuse to supplement groundwater for drinking.”
